Oakes A. Plimpton Presents ‘1957 Expeditions Journal’

Arlington, MA (PRWEB) August 06, 2013 - In his latest book “1957 Expeditions Journal: Baja California American Museum of Natural History Expedition Journal Spring 1957 Huautla Mexico Seeking The Sacred Mushroom With Gordon Wasson Summer 1957” (published by iUniverse) author Oakes A. Plimpton offers readers a glimpse into a pair of scientific adventures.

On the first one, known as the Puritan Expedition, Plimpton served as an assistant to four scientists collecting marine life, mammals, reptiles and fossils from islands off Baja California and in the Gulf of California (March, April and May).

Then in July and August of that year Plimpton accompanied mycologist and anthropologist Gordon Wasson and family to rural Mexico to record and participate in the Sacred Mushroom rite in Huautla, and then to visit other native villages to converse with curanderas and look for further hallucinatory mushroom religious practice.

The book is a transcription of the daily logs Plimpton kept, illustrated by the slides he took converted to jpegs.
